Springing into spring with a spring!

This coming Wednesday is the first day of spring.  I am hoping to kick off a lot here in the spring. In but a few weeks I will be flying back to my home town and with any luck fishing in the old haunts of my youth.

Yesterday marked my first day of spring a little early. I went fishing for the first time this year. This was all thanks to my good friend Jason Klass.

Today we headed up into the still briskly cold mountains to do a little fishing on a stretch of water that Jason discovered this last week.  A good fishing buddy shares great spots right?  I am not much of a angler during the winter months but it was more than past time for me to get out for the spring.  The stars aligned and I had the day off so we made it happen.  Great day indeed, with great water that we both got to pull fish in from.

Over the years Jason has been a good friend to me.
He supports my work and and he inspires me to write, create and embrace tenkara with all my heart.  He has a wicked sense of humor that while not everyone gets his darker humor all the time, he reminds me not to take things too seriously.

So why am I “bromancing” here with you?
Well, I am grateful to have Jason as a friend but in this case I want to give him some props.  Jason really is responsible for co-creating and helping me to develop my latest spool design.

We talk regularly about practical tenkara topics, blog post ideas and my research and development of items I can make in my shop.  One day we were talking about different fly boxes that we have owned and he mentioned the “Perrine” spring clip boxes; I remember these too from my grandpa’s fishing boxes.  They had a variety of designs they came out with over the years but one of them was a spring that flies sat into.

He lit up and said…”You need to make a spring fly clip for your line spools”.  The next day I got to work on a prototype and in very little time had the new design.  I hit the hardware store and found a spring that would do the job and the new “Spring Fly Holder Line Spool” was born.

With Spring finally here I decided it would be an good (and slightly ironic) time to release these spools and have a "spring sale" on my etsy page. All of my items on the etsy page are on sale with a special promo code.
The sale will run until March 31st.
