Welcome to the Birthday Edition.June 17th ....I begin my 56th trip on the earth circumnavigating around the sun. While turning 56 isn't really a milestone birthday, each year burns a little when I look at my "memento mori" calendar. Each Friday I mark another box off on the calendar and I am about to complete the line of 52 weeks. I have long passed the point where I have more days to live than I have already lived. Looking at life through the stoic point of view, the memento mori calendar is actually a great way to visualize that we have only a limited time to live out our lives and that the choices we make for how we live our lives should be a mindful one. One of intent. It really is a process of waking up to life and making a conscious effort to live life to its fullest. This month I celebrate and reflect. I look with excitement on a life that has had a pretty good story line to it. One that has friends, adventures and laughter to balance out the adversaries, tedium and tears. I am grateful for this life and all that it has been for better or for worse. This month I am going to be a little self indulgent in my featured posts. I have also changed this home page name to "TENKARA CURRENTS". I have used the analogy before of looking at life like the current of the river. The double-entendre isn't lost on me as well with this being a place to see what is "current". I hope that you enjoy this month's post and can also take a moment or two to think about the currents in your own life.

Great post Dennis! As always, you've given us tons of content to take in and think about.. Your article on runoff should be required reading for all beginning fly anglers (well, and experienced anglers too). Most people give up during runoff season but this gives them hope! Happy birthday buddy! I look forward to many more years of adventures with you! Let's make evey box on that memento mori calendar count!
